Event dates or times are missing or invalid

Check the event’s start and end values, date format, and whether it spans dates.

An event date differs from your preferred format

Message looks like

  • Date field not in your preferred date format

What it means

At least one date on the event rows is not written in the date format of the person running the import, so NetSuite stops at the mapping step.

Import context: Events.

Check this first

Compare the Date and End Date values with the importing user format under Home > Set Preferences.

Show the steps

Steps for this error

  1. Compare every Date and End Date value with the importing user’s date format under Home > Set Preferences, in the Formatting section.
  2. Correct the cells that differ from that format.
  3. Retry one event.

Documentation checked September 16, 2026.

An event Date or End Date is missing

Message looks like

  • Required field missing for field Date

What it means

A row is missing its Date or End Date. Formatted but empty spreadsheet rows below the data can also import as blank events.

Import context: Events.

Check this first

Check the date columns for blanks and delete leftover empty rows after the data.

Show the steps

Steps for this error

  1. Check the Date and End Date columns for rows without values.
  2. If every intended row has a value, delete the empty rows after your data. Spreadsheet formatting on an empty cell can make NetSuite treat it as a row.
  3. Save the file and retry.

An event date and time cannot be parsed

Message looks like

  • Parse of date/time failed

What it means

NetSuite could not parse a date and time on the event rows, either from a format mismatch or from an End Date it had to invent for a row that lacked one.

Import context: Events.

Check this first

Compare the date and time cells with the importing user preference and fill any missing End Date values.

Show the steps

Steps for this error

  1. Compare each Date and End Date cell with the importing user’s date and time format under Home > Set Preferences.
  2. Check for rows without an End Date. A missing end value can generate an invalid date during the import.
  3. Correct the format or supply the missing dates, then retry one event.

Documentation checked September 16, 2026.

The event time range is invalid

Message looks like

  • Start time must be earlier than the end time

What it means

An event ends before it starts. An event also cannot span two days, so a later date with an earlier time of day fails the same way.

Import context: Events.

Check this first

Check each End Date against the Date and keep every event within a single day.

Show the steps

Steps for this error

  1. Check for End Date values earlier than the Date value.
  2. Check the times: an event cannot span two days, so an End Date on a later day with an earlier time of day also fails. Change both the end date and time so the event stays within one day.
  3. Retry one event.

If that looks right

Oracle describes a restriction on events spanning dates in this event-import workflow. This does not establish a rule for every NetSuite calendar interaction.

Book a free 30-minute look at your import error

Bring the error and your file to a screen share and I will dig into it live. Thirty minutes is usually enough to find what is wrong and tell you what fixing it takes. Sometimes that settles it on the call; when it does not, you leave with a straight answer instead of a mystery. No cost and no obligation.

An import that keeps failing is often the first visible sign of a larger setup problem. Most of my client work starts exactly here: somebody mid-import, a file that will not load, and nobody on their side to email. If a migration or implementation sits behind this error, that is the work I do every week.
